I was very excited when Mercedes-Benz asked me to test the Mercedes GLB 250 4Matic for a weekend, as I had been really looking forward to testing not only a Mercedes but also a Mercedes-Benz SUV Model.
Driving up to the Vienna Alps in the Mercedes-Benz GLB was a singularly great experience.
The drive through the winding roads allows you to relax and take in the most pleasant features of driving a Mercedes, like the quiet elegant cabin and the intuitively operated infotainment system – Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX)
Let’s not forget about the tech-savvy safety features like the convenient speed adjustment ahead of bends, junctions, or roundabouts carried out by Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and its camera and radar systems which allow the GLB to see up to 500 meters ahead and drive in the semi-automated mode in certain situations.
My girlfriend and I highly appreciated the ENERGIZING comfort control systems in the vehicle which uses lighting and musical moods plus a number of massages for a wide range of feel-good programs. This is really a blessing for the whole body, especially the back and the neck, perfect for long trips but also for short ones 😉
Let me dive deeper into and present to you my Highlights of the Mercedes-Benz GLB 250 when driving from Vienna City center to the Nature Park Hohe Wand
Distinctive exterior design of the Mercedes Benz GLB
The powerful proportions of the GLB underscore the off-road focus of the design: the surfaces of the forms are emphasized, and reduced lines and precise seams are major features. The upright front section with its striking headlamps is clear evidence of off-road genes, as are the short overhangs at the front and rear. Fotos
The robust look should show that it cannot only overcome curbs but also sward. With the GLB, the form actually follows the function.
Versatility and Space – Plenty of room in all dimensions
Exceptionally good space at the front and back, thanks to the enormous headroom and interior width, a very pleasant feeling of space.
Highlights
- Generous, usable trunk.
- Rear backrests 2: 1: 2 adjustable and foldable (always flat loading area).
- Up to seven seats: (The GLB is the first compact vehicle from Mercedes Benz to offer a third seat row on request with two additional individual seats. The seats offer people up to a height of 1.68 meters a comfortable amount of space)
High-quality interior design
The interior of the GLB can be configured with luxury design styling. Interior accents including nubuck leather and milled aluminum trim create a different look and feel. The instrument panel and center console have sharper angles and bolder lines.
The instrument panel is configured in a single piece that stretches from the cockpit into the center of the dash. The large, aluminum-trimmed air vents and the straight lines in the dash create a bolder look.
Intuitively operated Infotainment system – MBUX
The GLB will also come with MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), which is an intuitively operated infotainment system that comes with a full-color heads-up display, and navigation, and it can be controlled with voice commands that are activated by saying “Hey Mercedes”. (Hallo Mercedes)
The multimedia system is very intuitive but requires a bit of attention when operating, but the resolution of the screen and the range of functions of the system, on the other hand, is outstanding. There are enough shelves, and inductive mobile phone charging and smartphone integration are available as an extra
Comprehensive Energizing comfort control
The ENERGIZING comfort control networks various comfort systems in the vehicle and uses lighting and musical moods plus a number of massages for a wide range of feel-good programs. The ENERGIZING COACH recommends these programs according to the situation. Especially for longer trips, this is highly appreciated;-)))
Security & Driving assistance systems:
Thanks to its camera and radar systems, the GLB is able to see up to 500 meters ahead and drive in a semi-automated mode in certain situations. This includes, for example, the convenient speed adjustment ahead of bends, junctions, or roundabouts carried out by Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, which it also uses map and navigation data.
Multibeam Led headlamps system
The optional MULTIBEAM LED headlamps to allow quick and precise adjustment of the headlamps to the current road and traffic conditions. With the adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, the main beam can remain on at all times. In addition, GLB models with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and large media display also have a special off-road light. This makes it easier to see obstacles in rough terrain in the dark.
Mercedes Benz GLB Engines
The new GLB is available with four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines which were completely updated to relaunch the compact model series. In comparison to the previous generation, they are characterized by significantly increased power and by improved efficiency, and reduced emissions.
My Verdict
For me, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is the most versatile compact SUV on the market.
It offers a significant SUV feeling, offers great variability in terms of space and utility, and offers state-of-the-art assistance and appealing multimedia systems. It is a versatile off-roader and a spacious family car at the same time. Available as a seven-seater on request, the SUV is suitable for every occasion.
Driving the GLB 250 we had always a very good view of the road thanks to the high and upright seating position and large glass surfaces. The all-around view is also impressive, reversing camera series (360-degree all-around view optional). The powerful and beautiful off-road design is also a highlight for me.
