Best Wiener Schnitzel in Vienna

When it comes to indulging in the quintessential Viennese culinary experience, the search for the Best Schnitzel in Vienna becomes an exciting adventure. Vienna, the capital of Austria, is renowned for this iconic dish, and navigating through the city’s diverse culinary landscape is essential to savoring the perfect Wiener Schnitzel.

What is a Wiener Schnitzel?

According to Austrian law, the original schnitzel is made from veal, and shall not be consumed in any other form. However, some restaurants and carts have mixed things up a little, offering you the classic schnitzel as a wiener schnitzel.

Which piece of meat for the Wiener Schnitzel?

The Wiener Schnitzel is traditionally made from veal. The butcher cuts the tender, low-fat meat from the top side of the veal. It is ideal for pan-frying schnitzel. But you can also use veal schnitzel or loin.

Where does the Wiener Schnitzel come from?

It is claimed that the Wiener Schnitzel is a variant of the “cotoletta alle Milanese” that Field Marshal Radetzky met in Milan in 1848. Since he reported enthusiastically to the court, he had to tell the court to cook the recipe when he returned to Vienna in 1849.

Original Wiener Schnitzel – Pork or Veal ?

The Wiener Schnitzel is traditionally made with veal.

What to serve with a Wiener Schnitzel?

Another law of the land is that a classic schnitzel shall be served with cold potato salad. On the off chance, you are offered aside, we suggest you choose the lingonberries. Creating a complete classic that you will love from start to finish. Once you have tried the classic, you can take on the different versions if you choose.

What do you drink with a Wiener Schnitzel?

The Wiener Schnitzel is of good quality, seasoned with a little lemon, and is accompanied by fresh fries or a delicious potato salad without preservatives. And with that, you drink a glass of wine. It should be a strong white wine. So a dry Riesling is a good choice. Alternatively, you can drink a beer.

How do I make a real Wiener Schnitzel?

Gently pound the schnitzel between cling film.  Salt the meat on both sides, dredge in flour, tap off, dip in the eggs, and dredge in the breadcrumbs.
Fry the schnitzel about 2 fingers high in shortening until golden. …
Cut the lemon into wedges and garnish the finished Wiener Schnitzel with lemon wedges.

Where can I eat the Best Wiener Schnitzel in Vienna?

To ensure you do not miss out, we have listed down all the places where you can find the best Viennese Schnitzel in Vienna, along with approximate prices and tips to enhance your overall experience.
