Vienna hosts one of the world’s biggest charity events since 1993 – the Life Ball. After one year of break, the event came back even bigger, more sparkling, crazier than ever, colorful and diverse. The clear focus stayed the same since the first ball – to end the spread of HIV/AIDS. 2017 the key message is ‘know your status’ – the first step keeping HIV under control.
Austrian Airlines flight number OS 1088 has landed in Vienna
Since many years Austrian Airlines offers a unique service to support the life ball. As more and more celebrities from the US were interested in attending this important event the Airline decided to dedicate a plane and a special life ball flight to fly in the VIPs…… with the life ball log on the plane, a Boing 767 landed in Vienna Friday morning – many celebrities and supporters like Dionne Warwick, Ute Lemper or Amanda Lapore, as well as their Stylist and managers on board…. the perfect way to dedicate to social engagement for the airline!
In addition, Austrian Airlines supports the ball by sending some pretty and in perfect red dressed stewardesses to assist in the organization of the welcoming event on the red carpet……

Life Ball – Dress code … yes …or no…….?
The life ball welcomes two categories of guests. Politicians, sponsors, and ball lovers keep the traditional dress code for balls in Austria – long evening dress and black tie – dressing up worshiped!
For the parade of the costumed guests on the red carpet – there is no limit to fantasy – but – there is a ‘2017 Life Bible’ that sets standards for the costumes…let me share some facts:
Entering the life ball with a so called ‘style ticket’ requires extravagant styling atmosphere of the event for the guests – who are an essential part of the Life Ball Night. The most important principle that applies is the demand to create the outfit with inspiration from the colorful and life-affirming world. Completed with flamboyant head jewelry and glamorous hair styling and makeup. The style police will give the extra bonus for outfits containing red ribbons or other symbols of safer sex.
Designer love supporting the Life Ball with their unique creations
Fashion was always an important factor to make this event successful – not only when it comes to the fantastic costumes – but also for high-class fashion. Numerous famous designers love to support the Life Ball …. Jean-Paul Gaultier, Eva Cavalli, Dean and Dan Katen from the label Dsquared2, they like to attend the event and express their sympathy with the project.
There was no actual fashion show this year, but designers did dress VIP guests and Francesco Scognamiglio presented breathtaking dresses from his last collections – each one a high light…. you may instantly understand why Hollywood celebs like to wear his styles……
The Life Ball Key Messages 2017
The Life Ball organizers want people to be aware of their immune status, in the same way that they know their blood group. Around 54% of HIV-positive people do not know that they have been infected. Early treatment helps to dramatically reduce the risk of passing on the virus. ‘Recognize the Danger’ and ‘Know your Status’ are the unapologetically serious key messages at the Life Ball 2017
The RedCarpet at the Life Ball
Traditionally the LifeBall opens with a glamorous RedCarpet performance in front of the Vienna City Hall. After the guests arrive there were several shows and speeches on the front stage from supporters of the LifeBall, including welcome words from the Mayor of Vienna Michael Häupl and Christian Kern, Federal Chancellor of Austria on the “Know Your Status” Campaign. Naomi Campbells was present, representing the Elton John Aids Foundation. The Life+ Awards was handed to Greg Owen and Will Nutland, for their work “I want PrePEP Now”. Finally a magical performance of Dionne Warwick and Cheyenne Elliott “What the world needs now”
The LifeBall Party in the City Hall of Vienna
Starting from 22:00 the LifeBall Party takes place inside the City Hall. DJs from all over the world do their performance, like DJ Michael Magnan, DJ Fat Tony, DJ Wittgenstein, DJ Moesey aka Pierre Sarkozy, DJ Bo Monde,….The Official End of the Life Ball is 05:00 but the Life Ball After Hour Evening is starting at 04:00 is at the Volksgarten Discotheque so you can party even longer there.
