The Ebner’s Waldhof is a superior resort ideally located on Lake Fuschl, in the Salzkammergut and close to the festival city of Salzburg, Austria. Therefore, we would love to share with you our experience and we warmly recommend this resort no matter if you are out to enjoy wellness, culture, romantic, family holiday or various kind of sports.

Exhausted after a 3-hour drive from Vienna, and since the weather was rainy and cold, and as we could not take advantage of the hotel’s private beach directly on the lake, we looked forward to trying out the amazing SPA covering an area of over 4000 m2, which is the largest private SPA in the Salzkammergut.

Our suite was very comfortable and we even had a separate salon with a terrace overlooking the resort and the majestic Fuschl Lake.

We could not wait to get into those fluffy bathrobes and hit the wellness area. There, we were greeted by very professional staff who showed us the various amenities. We were overwhelmed with the choice between the Infrared cabin, the Finnish sauna, the saline steam bath or the saline inhalation grotto. We decided to try them all.  Because of these diversity, it was a very quiet and we enjoed a very private experience. The highlight was certainly afterwards to jump into the cold waters of the Grotto.

After a delicious dinner, we explored the bar area, very pleasant and offering each night a different entertainment, this time was a talented piano player bringing back sweet memories.

Waking up to a new day, the sun was mirroring its first rays onto the smooth surface of the Fuschl lake, amazingly, 90% of the rooms are oriented towards the lake. After an extensive and plentiful breakfast, we decided to explore the charming region made up of soft rolling hills, wide bands of mixed forest and blooming mountain pastures and the unforgettable villages. Our journey took us to Bad Ischl, the historical imperial summer residence of former Emperor Franz Josef and their renowned Café Zauner. Hallstatt with its houses standing close side-by-side appearing to be stuck onto the rock, was definitely the cultural highlight of the day. The Gmunder Pottery producing traditional and authentic crafts is another spot worth driving to.

The Salzkammergut is the home of the world-famous movie Sound of Music, which will be the subject of another post… stay tuned…

After driving around and walking for hours, we were looking forward to the massages and beauty treatments, which we had booked in the morning. The massage was not only relaxing but also was a pain away experience, thus allowing for a golf round the day after. All products used within the Spa are self-made from the hotel’s own Herb Kitchen.

This time around, we dined at the second restaurant of the hotel  and were again pleased that despite having 124 rooms, we enjoyed quite a relaxing atmosphere.

Sunday came too soon, but how lucky were we to be in this wonderful resort, which offered so many activities without us needing to take the car! From the many sports like tennis, archery or hiking, we opted for golf and booked a 9-hole round at the Waldhof Golf Club overlooking the magnificent lake Fuschl, where the hotel’s own golf school offers introductory training courses for beginners. After a quick salad at lunch time, we took advantage of the hotel rental of some mountain bikes although we were tempted to get the e-bike instead. We cycled along the Fuschl lake and captured some very picturesque photos of the area and of the typical Zille boot carrying tourist from the Ebner’s Waldhof to the Schlosshotel Fuschl and back.

Also, recommendable for families with children since the hotel offers a wide range of activities like Pony stable and pets’ corner, outdoor playground, tubing run, hiking tours, carriage rides and of course, the water world with indoor pools, whirlpool and outdoor pools.

Our stay ended on a romantic note, as we booked the private spa just for the two of us, watching the sun go down over the lake and sipping a cold glass of Champagne.

The week-end was so fantastic and relaxing that we are already planning to book a few days in January and enjoy the cross-country skiing and the wonderful winter wonderland at the superior Wellness & Spa Hotel Ebner’s Waldhof.
