AVIDEA Hotel South Tyrol Review – Our 3-Night Stay near Merano
Some luxury hotels impress through size. Others through history, formality or spectacle. AVIDEA takes a different approach.
Located in Lagundo, or Algund in German, just outside Merano in South Tyrol, AVIDEA is a contemporary 5-star adults-only hotel with only 29 suites. That relatively small scale turns out to be one of its defining characteristics. Rather than feeling like a large resort, it feels personal, calm and intentionally private. Guests are welcomed from the age of 16.
We spent three nights here from 2 to 5 August, during the height of the South Tyrolean summer. It was an ideal time to experience both sides of AVIDEA: the hotel as a place in which you can comfortably spend an entire day doing very little, and its location as a starting point for exploring vineyards, irrigation-channel paths, Merano and the mountains.
What interested me most before our visit was the combination of adults-only hospitality and Luxury All Inclusive. All-inclusive and small luxury hotels do not always belong naturally in the same sentence. At AVIDEA, however, the concept is less about endless consumption and more about removing decisions from your day.
Food, drinks, wellness, surroundings and many activities are integrated into the stay. The result is a hotel where it becomes remarkably easy simply to remain at the property.
That, in my view, is where AVIDEA is strongest.
All of You. Just for You – Understanding the AVIDEA Philosophy
AVIDEA describes its philosophy around time, individual wishes, nature and understated design. The hotel deliberately avoids creating the feeling of a large-scale resort. Natural materials, contemporary architecture and the South Tyrolean landscape form the background rather than competing for attention.
And this is quite important when evaluating the hotel.
AVIDEA does not represent traditional grand-hotel luxury. Do not arrive expecting chandeliers, marble lobbies and formal service rituals. The aesthetic is much more contemporary Alpine: wood, clean lines, warm neutral colours, large windows, greenery and views.
For many modern luxury travellers, that will actually be its appeal.
The atmosphere is polished without being stiff. Days have very little imposed structure. You can spend the morning walking, disappear into the spa after lunch, remain by the Sky Pool for the afternoon and dress for dinner later without ever feeling that you need to follow a resort schedule.
That freedom corresponds well with the hotel’s “Just you and your wishes” positioning.
Adults Only at AVIDEA – Why It Makes a Difference
AVIDEA accepts guests aged 16 and above, and with only 29 suites, the adults-only concept has a noticeable influence on the atmosphere.
This isn’t simply a marketing label.
Around the pools and relaxation spaces there is generally a quieter rhythm than you would expect at a family resort during the summer holidays. Breakfast can be leisurely. The rooftop terrace is designed more for reading, sunbathing, conversation and enjoying the landscape than organised entertainment.
For couples, solo travellers or friends wanting a quiet South Tyrolean getaway, the format makes sense.
Families travelling with younger children, of course, will need to look elsewhere. Similarly, travellers searching for a lively resort atmosphere with extensive evening entertainment may find AVIDEA deliberately subdued.
But tranquillity is precisely what AVIDEA is selling.
Arrival and Location – Between Algund and Merano
AVIDEA is located in Oberplars above Lagundo/Algund, surrounded by the landscape that makes the Merano region so distinctive: orchards, vineyards, forested slopes and mountains rising behind the valley.

One advantage of the location is that you don’t have to choose between nature and town.
Algund provides immediate access to hiking and cycling routes, while Merano remains close enough for shopping, cafés, sightseeing and an evening in town. The hotel itself highlights walks towards Merano as well as excursions into the Texel Group Nature Park. (Avidea)
For us, this mixture is considerably more interesting than being completely isolated in the mountains.
You wake up surrounded by nature but can still combine the stay with the Mediterranean atmosphere of Merano.
Sleep Well – AVIDEA’s Suites
Accommodation is an important part of the AVIDEA concept because this is an all-suite hotel.
The 29 suites span several categories, including Natura Rooftop, Aqua Rooftop, Aqua Spa, Aurelia Rooftop, Aurelia Spa, Augusta, Vinea Rooftop, Vinea, Delizia Garden, Vitis Garden and other nature-oriented categories. Depending on the category, features can include private gardens, panoramic terraces, hot tubs or individual wellness elements. (Avidea)
What connects the different categories is the design language.
Natural colours and materials feature prominently, and the visual relationship between indoors and outdoors has clearly been considered. Views toward vineyards, apple orchards and the surrounding mountains become part of the room rather than merely something seen through a small window.
There is also a dedicated AVIDEA Sleep Concept. Included amenities listed by the hotel include high-quality mattresses and linens, sleep masks, fragrances, relaxing music and a selection of pillows subject to availability. Suites also include tea and coffee, fresh fruit and mountain spring water on arrival, a wellness bag with bathrobes and towels, toiletries and a yoga mat. These details matter.
A luxury hotel room should not simply photograph well. It should work exceptionally well when you close the door, and AVIDEA clearly places considerable emphasis on comfort and sleep.
Which AVIDEA Suite Should You Choose?
If I were choosing between categories, I would consider how much time I planned to spend privately in the suite.
A rooftop suite with a terrace and hot tub makes sense for a romantic stay or special occasion. A garden suite provides a different relationship with the surrounding landscape. Travellers intending to spend most of the day hiking or using the main spa may find one of the standard suite categories perfectly sufficient.
In other words, I would invest in the premium categories for their private outdoor and wellness experience, rather than simply for additional square metres. (Avidea)
AVIDEA Luxury All Inclusive – One of the Hotel’s Biggest Strengths
The Luxury All Inclusive concept deserves its own section because it substantially changes the experience of staying here.
AVIDEA includes breakfast, an afternoon selection, dinner and a considerable drinks offering. Its beverage concept operates from 11:00 am until 11:00 pm and covers selected wines, cocktails, juices and coffee. A separate rarities menu is available for bottles and products outside the standard package. (Avidea)
This is where the word “all-inclusive” requires some clarification.
The atmosphere does not resemble the classic large-resort buffet model. AVIDEA instead combines the financial simplicity of all-inclusive with a dining experience closer to that of a small gourmet hotel.
And that combination worked particularly well for a three-night wellness stay.
You don’t spend the day calculating what another drink by the pool will cost or whether you should leave the property for lunch. Everything feels integrated.
From Breakfast to Dinner at AVIDEA
Breakfast is served from 7:30 am until 10:30 am, with buffet selections and à la carte dishes. AVIDEA highlights local suppliers including the Tauber village bakery, family butcher Siebenförcher and Lagundo dairy. (Avidea)
I particularly like this approach in South Tyrol.
The region sits culturally and geographically between Alpine and Mediterranean Europe, and good hotels here can draw from both traditions: excellent bread and dairy products alongside fruit, lighter dishes, Italian coffee and Mediterranean influences.
Breakfast can also be enjoyed on the panoramic terrace when conditions permit.
Between 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm, an afternoon buffet provides lighter hot and cold options, salads and homemade cakes, accompanied by drinks. Dinner follows between 6:30 pm and 8:30 pm. (Avidea)
This schedule makes the concept especially suitable for active travellers.
You can hike or cycle in the morning, return in time for an afternoon meal, spend several hours in the wellness area and then have dinner without having to leave the hotel again.
The Gourmet Experience – Alpine Meets Mediterranean
The kitchen is led by Chef Simon Nikolussi, whose culinary approach places South Tyrolean and seasonal produce at the centre while introducing Mediterranean and international influences. The hotel’s current concept includes a choice of menus, including Alpine, Mediterranean and vegan options. (Avidea)
AVIDEA describes the approach as regional at heart but cosmopolitan in its execution. Ingredients such as truffle, Wagyu or caviar may appear where appropriate, while the broader philosophy increasingly follows a farm-to-table direction. (Avidea)
What matters more to me than luxury ingredients, however, is consistency.
During a multi-night hotel stay, elaborate dining can become tiring if every meal tries too hard to impress. The ability to choose between different styles of menu is therefore a sensible concept.
Luxury dining should still allow you to eat according to how you feel that evening.
The vegan option is also not treated merely as an afterthought, and special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice.
For a hotel of just 29 suites, the overall culinary proposition is unusually comprehensive.
Sky Terrace & Wellness – AVIDEA’s Signature Experience
If I had to identify one physical area that visually defines AVIDEA, it would be the Sky Terrace.
The rooftop combines a heated Sky Pool with whirlpool features, a wellness garden, sun loungers and wide views over the orchards, forests and Merano landscape. (Avidea)
In summer, this becomes a central part of the hotel.
There is something inherently relaxing about being able to alternate between warm water, sun and a panoramic mountain view without needing to go anywhere else.
The rooftop is contemporary rather than theatrical. Glass balustrades preserve the panorama and the architecture allows the surrounding countryside to provide most of the visual drama.
Under the Sky
AVIDEA calls this part of the experience “Under the Sky”, and the name is appropriate.
The heated rooftop Sky Pool allows swimming outside while looking over the valley. Afterwards, the large roof terrace creates enough space to spend a significant part of the afternoon outside. (Avidea)
This was one of the areas where the adults-only positioning particularly made sense to us.
A rooftop pool can easily become busy and noisy. Here, the concept is oriented toward slowing down.
For couples looking for an adults-only wellness hotel near Merano, the Sky Terrace alone will probably be one of the strongest reasons to shortlist AVIDEA.
The AVIDEA Spa
The main wellness area complements the rooftop rather than duplicating it.
AVIDEA offers a heated indoor/outdoor infinity pool, listed by the hotel at around 30–32°C, together with different sauna experiences and relaxation spaces. The sauna facilities include a Finnish outdoor sauna, bio/herbal sauna, steam bath and infrared facilities, with organised sauna infusions on selected days. (Avidea)
Water beds, quiet relaxation areas, herbal tea, dried fruit and nuts contribute to the wellness environment. There is also a fitness room with cardio equipment, weights and other training options. (Avidea)
Again, scale works in AVIDEA’s favour.
This is not a gigantic destination spa containing dozens of treatment rooms and multiple floors of facilities. Travellers specifically seeking the largest possible spa complex in South Tyrol have other options.
AVIDEA’s strength is something different: a high-quality wellness offering relative to a very small number of hotel guests.
That distinction is worth understanding before booking.
Special Treatments at AVIDEA
Treatments include massages, facial treatments and wellness rituals structured around themes including Power, Equilibrium and Pleasure.
AVIDEA works with South Tyrolean skincare brand TEAM DR JOSEPH, with dedicated facial and body treatments alongside AVIDEA’s own signature treatments and classics. (Avidea)
This regional connection is a good fit for the property.
It is easy for luxury hotels to fill spas with internationally recognisable brands, but a quality South Tyrolean wellness hotel using products with roots in the region feels more coherent.
Treatments are not generally included in the standard Luxury All Inclusive package, so I would reserve any important appointments before arrival, particularly during high season.
The AVIDEA Weekly Program
Not everyone wants to spend an entire wellness holiday lying beside a pool.
AVIDEA’s weekly activity programme provides an alternative without turning the property into an organised resort.
Activities can include yoga, Pilates, circuit training, back-focused exercise, forest meditation, floral workshops and herb walks. Some sessions take place outside, including yoga or Pilates on the rooftop and meditation in the hotel’s forest power spot. (Avidea)
A particularly South Tyrolean addition is the wine programme. Once a week, according to the hotel’s current schedule, a local winery is invited for a tasting and introduction to its wines. (Avidea)
What I like about this concept is that participation is entirely optional.
Luxury hotels sometimes over-program guests. AVIDEA provides possibilities without making you feel guilty for ignoring all of them and remaining beside the pool.
Activity Exclusive – Fitness, Yoga and Nature
The surrounding forest is incorporated into AVIDEA’s activity concept, with some sessions taking place outside the hotel itself. (Avidea)
For me, this is where a wellness holiday in South Tyrol becomes more interesting than a conventional spa weekend.
You can begin your morning with movement, spend several hours walking through vineyards or forest, return for a late lunch and then use the sauna and pool.
It creates a natural balance between activity and recovery.
AVIDEA also provides hiking poles, a hiking backpack in the room, hiking and cycling maps, secure bicycle storage and access to e-mountain-bike rental for an additional charge. Guided cycling and hiking activities can also be organised, some at an extra fee. (Avidea)
Hiking from AVIDEA – The Algunder Waalweg
One of the property’s biggest advantages for hikers is immediate access to the surrounding trail network.
AVIDEA states that there are around 160 kilometres of hiking routes in the surrounding area, ranging from gentle walks to more ambitious mountain excursions. Particularly convenient is the famous Algunder Waalweg, the historic irrigation-channel trail running directly near the hotel. (Avidea)
Waalwege are one of my favourite ways to experience this part of South Tyrol.
They generally follow old irrigation channels across hillsides and pass through vineyards, orchards and woodland. You get considerable scenery without necessarily undertaking a demanding mountain climb.
For guests staying three or four nights, this means you do not need to plan a major excursion every day. You can simply leave the hotel and start walking.
Mountain Biking and Cycling around Merano
Cycling is equally important in this region.
From Algund, routes extend toward Merano, Val Venosta and along sections connected with the historic Via Claudia Augusta. The hotel also highlights Val Passiria and the impressive waterfall at Partschins/Parcines as possible cycling destinations. (Avidea)
E-mountain bikes can be rented through the hotel for an additional charge, while bicycle storage is provided. (Avidea)
For active couples, this creates a very attractive combination: serious cycling during the morning followed by a warm pool, sauna and all-inclusive dinner later in the day.
Golf near AVIDEA
Golfers are also well served.
The hotel has arrangements with courses in the surrounding region and its current golf information highlights Golf Club Passeier.Meran and Golf Club Eppan among nearby options. AVIDEA guests also receive a South Tyrol Golfcard discount, with the hotel’s inclusive-services page currently stating a 20% reduction at participating South Tyrolean golf courses. (Avidea)

Algund – More Than Merano’s Neighbour
Merano inevitably receives most of the international attention, but Algund deserves more than to be treated merely as the place where the hotel happens to be located.
Its landscape is characterised by orchards, vineyards and mountain scenery, with walks leading directly into nature and more ambitious routes toward the Texel Group. (Avidea)
This gives AVIDEA an interesting dual personality.
You can spend one afternoon surrounded by almost complete tranquillity and another wandering through the arcades and cafés of Merano.
That contrast is part of the appeal.
Merano and AVIDEA’s Absolute Highlights
AVIDEA recommends several experiences for days when you want to explore beyond hiking and wellness.
Among them are the nostalgic lifts between Plars and Vellau, bouldering, tandem paragliding, Merano itself and the famous Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. (Avidea)
The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle remain one of the region’s essential sights. Their extensive themed landscapes make them particularly worthwhile if you enjoy gardens, photography or simply want a relaxed half-day excursion.
Merano provides the opposite experience to the hotel: boutiques, cafés, historic architecture and the Passer promenade.
My recommendation would therefore be not to overschedule your stay.
If you are at AVIDEA for three nights, choose perhaps one substantial excursion and spend the remainder of the time enjoying the hotel and its immediate surroundings. Otherwise you risk paying for an excellent wellness property while hardly using it.
Dolomites – Worth a Day Trip?
The Dolomites are one of Europe’s most extraordinary mountain landscapes and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. AVIDEA highlights destinations including the Three Peaks, Lake Braies, Seceda, Val Gardena, Alpe di Siusi, the Geisler peaks and Sellaronda. (Avidea)
However, I would add an important practical consideration.
AVIDEA sits in western South Tyrol near Merano, whereas many of the most famous Dolomite locations lie considerably farther east. They make excellent excursions if the Dolomites are a major objective of your trip, but I would not feel obliged to drive across South Tyrol simply because the famous locations appear on Instagram.
The Texel Group is much closer and provides spectacular mountain scenery almost outside AVIDEA’s door. The hotel itself makes precisely this point. (Avidea)
For a short stay, exploring locally makes more sense.
For a week-long itinerary, combining AVIDEA with two or three nights deeper in the Dolomites could be an excellent curated South Tyrol itinerary.
South Tyrol GuestPass Algund – Leave the Car at the Hotel
Another useful inclusion is the South Tyrol GuestPass Algund.
Guests at participating Algund accommodation can use South Tyrol’s public transport network during their stay, and the Algund version also includes selected cable cars and other benefits. (Südtirol Mobil)

This is more valuable than it may initially sound.
It allows you to visit Merano and other parts of the region without automatically taking the car. For a wellness-oriented trip, being able to leave the vehicle parked and use buses and trains is both convenient and much more relaxing.
Included Services – What Is Actually Included?
AVIDEA’s package is extensive. Beyond accommodation, the current inclusive services cover breakfast, afternoon food, dinner, selected drinks, the wellness facilities, fitness room, Wi-Fi, parking and the South Tyrol GuestPass. Guests also receive in-room tea and coffee, an initial minibar refill, a wellness bag, hiking backpack and other small amenities. (Avidea)
Items such as selected wine rarities, spa treatments, e-bike rental, some guided activities, EV charging, transfers and certain additional services carry separate charges. (Avidea)
I appreciate this transparency because “all-inclusive” can otherwise be frustratingly vague.
At AVIDEA, most of the things you are likely to consume during a normal hotel day are covered.
Useful Information Before Booking AVIDEA
A few practical details are worth knowing.
Check-in begins at 3:00 pm, while check-out is by 11:00 am. Guests wishing to arrive early can currently book breakfast on arrival in advance for an additional fee. The property is entirely non-smoking indoors. (Avidea)
Dogs are accepted on request for an additional charge, although they are restricted from various communal areas including the restaurant, bar, rooftop terrace and lawn. (Avidea)
The hotel also deliberately manages larger group reservations to preserve the quiet atmosphere; bookings for groups of more than six guests may require prior consultation. (Avidea)
Cancellation conditions, tourism taxes and pet charges can change, so I recommend checking the hotel’s latest booking conditions rather than relying on older articles when making a reservation.

AVIDEA regularly publishes seasonal packages rather than maintaining only one fixed rate structure.
At the time of writing in August 2026, current offers include concepts such as 7 nights for the price of 6, autumn 4-for-3 stays, South Tyrol combined with Lake Garda, solo-travel packages, honeymoon stays, Girls’ Time and Golf & Relax. (Avidea)
This is one area where checking the official website before booking can make a meaningful difference.
If your dates are flexible, I would compare the package pricing with the normal nightly rate before confirming.
AVIDEA Gift Vouchers
For someone who already knows and likes the hotel, AVIDEA also provides customisable gift vouchers.
The buyer can choose the voucher, amount and design and add a personal message. Vouchers can cover experiences ranging from accommodation to breakfast or spa treatments. (Avidea)
For weddings, anniversaries or milestone birthdays, a stay rather than a physical gift is increasingly appealing, and AVIDEA’s adults-only concept suits that particularly well.
The AVIDEA Collection
AVIDEA is also part of a small collection of different hospitality concepts in and around Merano.
The Guesthouse Suiteseven places guests directly beneath Merano’s arcades and offers 12 suites, while Chalet Avidea Secret provides a very different high-altitude experience near Merano 2000 at around 1,600 metres. (Avidea)
This is an interesting idea for repeat visitors.
AVIDEA itself works best as the wellness and gourmet option. Suiteseven is more appropriate if city life is your priority, while the chalet offers a more secluded mountain experience.
The strongest images are not necessarily elaborate interior details but the relationship between the architecture and its environment: the pools looking across the valley, rooftop loungers facing the mountains, glass walls framing orchards and contemporary suites opening toward greenery.
The hotel’s online gallery gives a good impression of the overall design language.
For your own stay, I would particularly make time for photography during early morning and late afternoon when the light across the valley becomes softer.
What We Liked Most About AVIDEA
After three nights, I would summarise AVIDEA’s strongest points as its small scale, quiet adults-only atmosphere, impressive rooftop wellness area and unusually complete Luxury All Inclusive proposition.
The 29-suite format is important. (Avidea)
There is enough infrastructure for a proper luxury wellness holiday, but not so much that the hotel loses its intimacy.
The rooftop pool is the visual highlight. The culinary concept makes staying in the hotel extremely easy. And the location allows you to combine relaxation with some of South Tyrol’s greatest strengths: walking, vineyards, cycling, mountain scenery and Merano.
A Few Things to Consider
No hotel is perfect for every traveller, and AVIDEA shouldn’t try to be.
If you want a historic grand hotel in the centre of Merano, this is not that experience. If you are travelling with young children, the adults-only rule removes AVIDEA from consideration. Travellers whose priority is an enormous destination spa with dozens of pools and treatment areas may also prefer one of South Tyrol’s larger resorts.
And if your main objective is exploring the eastern Dolomites every day, I would choose a base geographically closer to them rather than repeatedly making long excursions from Merano.
But these are not shortcomings so much as questions of fit.
AVIDEA is for travellers who value space, quiet, contemporary design, good food and the ability to alternate between nature and wellness without needing a complicated itinerary.
Who Is AVIDEA Best For?
I would particularly recommend AVIDEA for:
- Couples looking for a quiet luxury getaway in South Tyrol
- Wellness travellers who prefer intimate hotels over large resorts
- Food lovers attracted by a premium all-inclusive concept
- Hikers and cyclists wanting immediate access to Algund’s countryside
- Travellers combining a relaxing hotel stay with Merano
- Honeymoon or anniversary trips
- Solo travellers wanting an adults-only environment
- Guests who appreciate contemporary Alpine design rather than traditional grand-hotel style
Our Verdict – Is AVIDEA Worth It?
Yes – for the right traveller, AVIDEA is one of the more interesting small luxury hotel concepts around Merano.
What distinguishes it is not one extravagant feature.
It is the way several elements work together.
Twenty-nine suites keep the atmosphere intimate. Adults only keeps it quiet. Luxury All Inclusive removes much of the friction normally associated with hotel dining. The rooftop creates a genuine sense of place. The spa is substantial enough to make wellness a central part of the stay. And Algund provides nature literally outside the door. (Avidea)
During our three nights, the hotel worked particularly well as a place to slow the pace of a South Tyrol trip.
That, for me, is real contemporary luxury.
Not doing more.
Having enough time and space to enjoy where you already are.

South Tyrol has no shortage of excellent hotels. Competition at the luxury level is particularly strong, which means a property needs a clear identity.
AVIDEA has one.
Come here if you want a peaceful adults-only environment, beautifully designed suites, very good food, a rooftop pool overlooking the Merano countryside and enough wellness to justify doing absolutely nothing for an afternoon.
Come here too if you enjoy hiking, cycling or exploring, because the moment you step outside, Algund and the mountains provide an entirely different kind of luxury.
Our three-night stay was long enough to understand AVIDEA.
But four or five nights would probably be even better.
It would give you enough time for Merano, the Waalweg and perhaps a longer mountain excursion — while still leaving several hours each day for what AVIDEA does best:
Giving you a reason not to go anywhere at all.
